“Thanks,” Emily said coolly as he put the last strip of tape on her bandage.
“You’re welcome,” Silas replied, leaning forward to untie the laces of his boots.
“Here,” she said, scooting off the bed, carefully keeping her weight on the ball of her foot as she knelt on the old oak boards in the space between his parted thighs and took the laces from his hands, “let me do it.”
Surprise briefly crossed his face before settling into his typical stoic, emotionless mask. He sat up, his spine rigid as she unlaced the boot of his uninjured leg first and pulled it off, setting it on the floor beside her. She did the same with his injured leg, only this time, a wet, sucking sound protested the removal of the boot as she pulled it free of his foot.

I’m loving how they care for one another’s injures.
The squelchy sound from his boot sounds ominous.

Oh, ow. That last boot sounds like it was hiding something rather painful.
My first thought was about the yumminess of that space between his thighs. Then the sucking noise of the boot came about, and that does not sound good at all. Yikes!
Ooh, so much happening in this one, Melynda! I love his initial surprise and how he quickly covers it up when his features return to his “emotionless mask.” I think you have a word missing between “Suprise” and “briefly” (maybe flickered?) but, otherwise, a thoroughly engaging six. These characters (and the situtation you’ve put them in) are so intriguing!
“A wet, sucking sound”… that made me wince. (in a good way) I’m glad she’s tending to his injury! Loved your six!
Continue to enjoy their interaction. But man, that sucking sound doesn’t sound good for Silas!!
Really enjoyed this scene, the way they’re taking care of each other, but that sound when the other boot came off doesn’t bode well! Terrific snippet!
Silas, this is going to hurt! I hope she can gather the courage to help him. I’d hate for him to try to sew it up himself. Love love love this story. 🙂
I like how they’re nursing one another. That sucking sound probably isn’t a very good portent.
